Let's protect our nation

I grew up in a very diverse culture and society in Penang. I mixed with people from all kind of cultural backgrounds. I never have cultural and racial problems in Penang with anyone. What if one day all these change and I can’t share it with my children? I’m scared. I really am. This is because I am not gona leave the country just because there are unfairness and racism. I will stay, for now, to make sure my country is still a country for all, no matter what language you speak, what skin color you are, where you from and what religion you practice. I reject racism. I can proudly and confidently say that I am a muhibbah son of Malaysia. Let’s us protect this nation together, because you too, are Malaysians.

Democratising the rakyat

Filepic from Himpunan Mansuhkan ISA on 1/8/2009

You stand firm on the principal of democracy. You go against bad government. You speak up and articulate your thoughts. You create social awareness. You create fear to the people holding power. You got arrested. You are not given fair trial. Your voice is being suppressed.

Your image is ruined. Your family and friends are worried. You lost your job. You lost your dignity. You lost your rights.

You become the victim of democratization process for the betterment of the society and generations to come. The cost to pay is high.

But you fight for what you believe in, democracy.

For you people who are going to Bersih 2.0, PERKASA or UMNO Youth demonstration…

Is it worth it?

What kind of country are you living in?

No matter what you do, think of your loved ones.

Be responsible for your action.

For others..

While some people are out there using different ways to make lives better for everyone, what are you doing at home?

Telling the world that Malaysia is a bad country? Planning your future in overseas?

No point you people just sit there and watch. No point you people just criticize. No point you people just complain. No point you people just talk but no action.

The process of democratization won’t happen in a fortnight. It definitely won’t happen if no one ever takes the first step. Now the ball has rolled.

Are you going to take the baton and continue the long run?

If Malaysia is a democratic country, then show it. Behave like one!

You, must be part of it.

Uphold the integrity and sovereignty of Federal Constitution. Uphold the 5 principles of Rukun Negara.

People should stand united for any good cause either it’s against the Government or the Opposition.

Without voters, there’ll be no legitimate government. If now the Government is afraid of its people, are you gona be afraid of your government?

I am neither asking you to join demonstration nor asking you not to join demonstration.

Life is not about you and your future itself, it’s also about the generations to come.

Enough said.

ps: I do not hope to get arrested for this thought sharing. This is what Article 10 of the Federal Constitution offers. I love my country, Malaysia.

Najib @ Penang

Prime Minister of Malaysia, YAB Dato Sri Najib Razak went to Penang yesterday, 2/4/2011, Saturday.

People macam rusa masuk kampung. satu olang mali, riuh satu Penang. what's so great of him coming to Penang? ayooo.. it's just a visit, show face, shake hands, smile, take pics, eat free food, giv out freebies, promise this and that n den c u bye bye. y so much media attention on him? aya.. no other news meh. sumor all the news provided by BERNAMA. all one-sided news. See now Bernama wrote wrongly, give their own interpretation. hmmm..

Give Najib some space la.. I know he's our Prime Minister and yes, i love him too but janganlah lebih-lebih. Ish. Sambutan untuk YAB macam sedang mendewa-dewakan beliau. Tak patut kot.. Tokoh patut disanjungi dan dihormati tapi tak payahlah disembah.

Let PM continues to do his job. Media pun jangan bias. Rakyat pula critisize based on policies and not feelings.

Thank you.

freedom of speech in Malaysia

Freedom of speech is entitled to everyone. It’s the basic liberty of humankind. It simply means you can say whatever you want but you must also know what can and cannot be said. You will have freedom of speech if you are the government or you side them. Just look at Raja Petra and Ahmad Ismail. If your speech is not in favor of government, then ISA will be your home. But if you are pro-Government and your speech is against other people, race n even religion which are not the majority of the country, then you are free to walk on the street. This is Malaysia mah!

so are you free in this country?

get your facts right

All these while, I have been keeping quiet, not saying anything although I have been framed, criticized, downgraded, humiliated, and accused by someone.

But now before I sleep, I have something to say.

I would like to remind everyone to get your facts right before you say anything because it can become a sedition or defamation. I, OH CHIN ENG, NEVER EVER USE MY PTPTN LOAN TO BUY ANY CAMERA OR DSLR. I bought my DSLR back in 2007 using the money I earn working part time in few places. It’s ridiculous to say that I use PTPTN loan to purchase my DSLR. For your information as well, as a student representative I have never given a cent and I have never taken a cent from the university. You can check it with the university for clarification. If I am self-centered I won’t devote my time, energy, money and reputation to stand up for the students.

I don’t mind and I am so open to criticisms but please debate on facts and not by attacking people’s personal life. Don’t act as if you know me so well.

I am offended by these derogatory remarks. I hate being accused and its hurt. Mind your language. Yes, I feel behsyiok now.

But good news is, you, yes YOU, if you still know who you are after saying I use my PTPTN loan to buy a DSLR, you can continue with your baseless and irresponsible allegations. I’m not gona care anymore. Or let me suggest you this, if you don’t like what people say or write, just go off, don’t listen and don’t read. Don’t torture yourself la.

Thank you and good night.

Late PTPTN, not so good CNY

First of all, I hope the beloved Prime Minister who has been graciously sending us Chinese New Year’s greeting through SMS and e-mail will seriously look into this matter.

I am third year Journalism student from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR), Kampar campus. The reason I write this letter is to express my distraught, sadness, and disappointment over the late loan by the government.

I am one of the recipients of the National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN). Usually most of us in UTAR will get the loan a month after the new semester begins. Our semester began on 17th January but until today, I haven’t got any cent from PTPTN. Same goes to other students from other courses.

This late payment of PTPTN loan seriously cost a lot of troubles to students from lower income families like me. It’s even more troublesome especially during this Chinese New Year festive season. I was not able to prepare much for Chinese New Year. I was left with no choice but to only bought a new pair of clothes and not even able to buy new undergarments.

Another major problem I’m facing now is the student bill is already out. I have to pay about RM6000 by this Friday, 11th January. Failing to do so, I will be fined RM10 per week for late payment. How am I going to pay the bill if I’m penniless? To rub salt to the wound, I still owe months of hostel rentals. New semester means I have to buy new books too.

This Chinese New Year is definitely not a memorable as well when the southern states in Malaysia were having massive flood. The higher learning institution students in these states are in a very hard situation when their houses are ruined and for sure, they need a lot more money to repair their houses, get new furniture, buy new books and to start new living.

Since the Chinese New Year came earlier, PTPTN should be given earlier to avoid problems to the students. Why this problem occurred? Why the relevant authorities never take this into consideration? Is it the problem of public administration’s incompetency or the technical problem? Without PTPTN, how can we survive? I do not wish to eat bread and instant noodle everyday.

I plead to the PTPTN and Ministry of Higher Education to listen and act on my difficulty as soon as possible. Thank you and salam 1 Malaysia.

From Oh Chin Eng, a citizen who’s eligible to vote in the coming General Election.

Facebook illness

People really got caught up in the cyber world and become alien in the real world. In FB, they can chat like as if they know each other for years although they actually don’t know each other. But in real world, they are wordless when they see each other. It's scary when human lost their human characters in the real world. This social illness and social disorder will only breakdown human relationships and tear us apart. As long as Facebook is still around, people will till then glued in front of their laptop, releasing their Facebook addiction.

money by government = haram or halal?

As far as I know, this is the first time that a state government is giving out cash donation to the old folks but some politikus claimed it's haram. So i wana ask, the MONEY that the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT spend on the country is HALAL or HARAM because Genting casino pays tax, TOTO Magnum too, tobacco companies, alcohol as well as imported pork and etc which is haram in Islam. So??

If federal government says that the act of Penang state government is HARAM by giving out cash donation which is from horse racing betting, then i would say our Federal Government is HARAM! Haram because federal government is the one who passed the laws, enforce it and now they want to legalise football betting. If BN could not please and help its people, please don't use dirty tactics to bring down my beloved Penang state.

Who is Halal and who is Haram?

Those doing charity or those giving the license and legalise the activity?

Stop being hypocrite. People with sound mind is watching.

Bersyukurlah kalau ada insan yang berbuat kebajikan. Jangan dituduhnya haram. Sesungguhnya yang haram datang daripada hati kita sendiri.

*to those who wana return back the money, can donate it to my bank account. I will feel very blessed.

Namewee, you BABI ah??

Photo from Malaysiakini.

i just got a news from http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/143878

the news is about Perkasa members calling Namewee BABI and torched his photos which has been edited with his nose replaced with babi's nose.

Babi is pork la. Char Siu.

the Malays (the racist one la) all this while love to call us Chinese as babi. hahah! funny la. you call us Cina Babi just because we eat babi? or because you can't eat babi because it is haram is your religion?

funny. so how should we response? you Melayu Lembu kah because you eat lembu and the Hindus can't and some of the CHinese also can't take lembu?

lembu is beef by the way.

so i wana ask, Namewee, you Babi ah? i don't think you are lo cuz you walk with your back straight and not like babi. Babi can be eaten but you can't.

if you think are not, it's okla. just keep quiet lo. let them do what they want la. human wih brain won't call another human being as an animal ma right. eh maybe they don't have human brain. hahaha.

aih wasted la. if i knew that Perkasa is so perkasa tonite by calling Namewee BABI and torch his pics, i am for SURE go down to KL! maybe i can get free Char Seow Bak there. eh i tau u people import Babi to Malaysia, gov also get $ ma.. suty import and tax and everything. not meh??

u thought i duno ah??

anyway im impressed with Perkasa la.

waaaa. they are so creative and good in Photoshop. they edit the picture nicely, i like the babi's nose. that Perkasa members also got so much money to print big posters of Namewee hor. then they also have to waste their matches and lighter to torch his photos.

so i'll just wait for the news whether police and FRU will dispersed them or not la. if got, how long they took to decide that Perkasa is holding an illegal assembly.

and i would also love to see whether anyone from the group will be charged la. maybe for illegal assembly, causing public disorder, harming the public, trying to burn down something ke..

haha..

well.. we'll see la what the police will do. alaa.. you know, i know, everyone knows that our police very fair one ma right. just that sometimes a bit abusive and double standard lo.

okla i say no more la. dangerous la.

racist society

do you guys realised that all of us have been living in a full or semi-racist society?

agree or not?

this is a fact. it is more obvious recently with racist remarks and acts that ruin racial and religions harmony in the nation.

i'll give you some examples  to support my argument here.

some (especially recently) love to call the Chinese and Indians as immigrants and ask us to go back China. why?

some will stay away from the Indians especially in the swimming pool because they claimed that the Indians hair got a lot of kutu. why?

some say that the Malays are lazy pray to wall. why?

these are just some of the common racist thinking and misconception about the other races. there are more and more out there. i am sure you faced, made and heard more of this kind of statements.

why why why??

one of the reason is our upbringing. when we were small, our parents always say bad things about other races so that we won't mix with them, so that we can stay closely with our own people.

second reason would be these racist people do it to enlarge their political mileage. Once you are racist, you'll be praised like a hero to your ethnic and eventually you will get support in the political arena la.

many more reasons but im not gona elaborate more in this post. maybe i'll come up with a proper write-up on this issue.

why must we have this kind of ideas about other races?

Why during pre-Independence the non-Malays nvr FIGHT all out for equal rights during the political bargaining process? why huh??

We shall ask Tunku Abdul Rahman, Tun H. S. Lee, Tun Sambanthan and others.

and i hate it PANTANG GILA BABI when people say the Malays are lazy!

hmm.. takde kerja lain kot. orang racist patut je disulah dan dipotong! hmpph!

don't be skeptical, generalise, and have misconception of other people la..

Those who feel the Malays are lazy should read the journal 'The Myth of the Lazy Natives' by Syed Hussein Alatas.

If you don't have money to buy, go online and search la at http://www.bandung2.co.uk/books/Files/Economics/The_Myth_of_The_Lazy_Native.pdf

Malaysians, no matter who you are, what race you are, what religion you embrace, where you are, please learn and mix with other ethnics to understand them. respect diversity.

And please to judge an issue from the political, communal and religion perspective.

OI MALAYSIA IS MY COUNTRY LA!

Thank you.

Gerakan Matters

By Lingswaran Singh

Lings My Name is Singh puts on his Penangite hat and gives us the low-down on Penangites’ love-hate relationship with their homegrown party, Gerakan.

I was at Line Clear Nasi Kandar, having my nasi with juicy ayam goreng masala, blanched bendi, papadoms on the side with the best curry ever and a cup of teh tarik kurang manis while this uncle at the next table was singing Ji Ba Pan. No, that is not a curse word, although we use plenty of those daily.

You see people, I’m a Penangite, and we Penangites find so much bliss in eating delicious foods. We love Penang – the smell of the beach, the warm weather, the history, the big beautiful green trees, the unique people, the culture, and just about every single thing about Penang!

We are very nostalgic people. We like memories. We like to eat and talk, mostly al-fresco. We are simple people and we take great pride in being Penangites. Ever noticed how people from Penang always say “I’m from Penang” with a certain sense of confidence and pride? Yes, most of us do think being Penangite is so cool and so special. In Penang, as long as you can curse in Hokkien, we are brothers. I know, how crude right? But that’s the case for many of us, cursing has become a habit and soon to be culture.

We are straight forward people. We tak pandai pusing-pusing – if we think you stupid we say you are stupid, or mangkuk, and if your worse than that its mangkuk hayun. I’m used to hearing “Ask him go die la” so many times that it is simply a phrase to express disappointment. People here can be very harsh with their language, but that doesn’t mean they are rude or anything, it’s usually only between close friends. Ironic, isn’t it? We use curse words to a certain degree to portray closeness.

On my table was a copy of GERAKAN MattersApa Anak Malaysia Mahu?, the official newsletter of Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia. Why on earth is Parti Gerakan Rakyat Malaysia not in Pakatan Rakyat? This is probably because they are not listening to the rakyat.

I think I share the sentiments of the younger generation of Penangites with regards to Gerakan. I flipped through the pages of that zine, I saw the spirit of Penang encompassed in it. It contained articles written in or translated into Malay, Chinese and Tamil; okay, maybe just a little bit of Tamil.

So why did they loose big? Simple, because they refused to listen.

We love Gerakan, oh yes, the whole idea of it. The founding father, the principles, the ideology, the opposition voice in the Barisan Nasional, our homegrown Party – our pride! But they have failed us. Failed us by compromising too much, failed us for not opposing when they should, failed us by remaining silent. However, as I have said, we are sentimental a people and our love is true.

So if anybody from Gerakan is reading this, then hear this; we love Gerakan, oh yes we do! We are Penangites, we could even sweep DAP out the next election if we want to, so listen and listen well.

Just leave the coalition! Repent already! We are ever willing to forgive you and only you, so please join us, the Rakyat. Listen to us, we are asking you to leave Barisan Nasional, just leave. We are not asking you to join Pakatan but we are asking you to join the Rakyat! Well, you can join Pakatan if you want to, but leave Barisan Nasional; this is the will of Penangites! Listen to us, not UMNO, not the Prime Minister, not Khoo Tsu Koon, but us the younger generation.

Yeah, we do like our current Chief Minister, and I am sure he is going to be around for a while, as long as he doesn’t play us off. Nice guy la, but not so authentic, I mean we are proud of a person who holds true to good values, but we wished we had a Penangite like him. Not so important but we wished lah… it’s a state nationalism kinda thing. As things are now, Gerakan would most probably disappear soon if they don’t listen to Penangites. They should, because we love them, we want them out of Barisan Nasional. We don’t promise them the state, but we would like to see them as strong and wise oppositions.

Gerakan needs no rejuvenation plans; it just needs to leave Barisan Nasional, now. That is all, we are ever willing to forgive you, we want you back, do not disappoint us. I believe this is your last call, if you do not leave now I guess you have betrayed us for the last time. By the way, Line Clear Nasi Kandar, damn nice la wei!

Acceptance is the Key to Unity

To stay harmony and united under one roof in a diverse, plural and multicultural society like Malaysia, we need not only to be understanding, tolerance, respect or sensitive. The master key of unity is ACCEPTANCE. When you can open up your heart to accept differences, you'll eventually open up to the high possibilities for a sense of togetherness. Acceptance will gives us a better understanding, tolerance, and respect towards others. Let's celebrate our differences. That's what make us unique. We are different but we are all same-same. =p

As a Malaysian..

This long write-up is to actually reply a reply from a friend in my post 'what malay rights??!'

I was having a hard time with the title so i just simply come up with the title. This is a very long post. I talk a lot. Thanks if you agree or even if you don't. it's just my 2 cents. Don't be angry.

Thanks for ur view my friend, Danial. Actually I never want to or feel like questioning what the bumiputera deserved to get compared to the non-Bumiputera. Constitution says hak Bumiputera, its fine for me. In my opinion, if you work hard, then you should deserve a well treatment tak kira bangsa dan agama. Entahla dah more than 50 years kita merdeka, tak cukup lagikah Melayu dibantu?

So?? It's time that affirmative action be implemented based on needs and merits and not merely based on ethnic. I rasa affirmative action tu perlu dikurangkan untuk mengurangkan kebergantungan orang Melayu kepada kerajaan. Semakin banyak kita memberi, semakin banyak orang akan meminta.  It’s a human nature to be lazy and not to work hard when they always get help and support by the others.

Adakah bantuan kerajaan yang berterusan ini satu strategi untuk membeli undi orang Melayu kepada BN? Is it a strategy to secure the Malay votes by keep on helping them? Yeala kalau orang bagi you bantuan, you akan rasa terhutang budi kan. Im just asking.

Jika kerajaan kata non-Malays lebih maju, tak betul kerana ada banyak non-Malays yang poor and not educated. Let say you nak kata CIna tu kaya, then fikirlah macam mana mereka boleh kaya sedangkan mereka susah mendapat bantuan kerajaan? Ini kerana orang yang tak dibantu lazimnya akan berusaha lebih kerasa untuk memajukan hidup mereka. Bukan kah begitu??

It’s the government who makes its people not competitive enough by keep saying its people especially the Malays are far more behind than the rest, therefore they need help. It’s about psychology and perception. When people keep calling you stupid, you’ll eventually become stupid although you are not. I feel the Malays should be given moral support and praise them if they are good instead of keep on calling them poor and not developed. This culture has to be changed. It’s hard to be ahead of others when we are fear of ourselves. I strongly believe that the Malays and the Bumiputras never want to be labeled and called as a weak race or bangsa yang lemah anymore.

Im ok with them they are fine with me. I understand, accept and learn from them. Is it that hard to be together as a family?? We should learn from the kids. Just look at the photo. They don’t even know what is race. It’s better if they are race blind. They just have to know that they are the same, Malaysian.

I totally against racism be it from the Chinese, Indians or Malays. There should not be double standard in punishing the racists. If the government wishes to use existing laws to silent its citizens, be fair for all. Jangan tutup mata bila penyangak itu sebulu dengan anda. Every single citizen should not be racist. Each and every one of us must not support racism.

Again I langsung tak faham apa itu sebenarnya Malay rights. MCMC gona arrest me for this statement. There should be a platform of debate and discussion.

Selalunya masalah ditimbulkan orang politikus. Jangan lah jadi macam tikus. Tikus tu simply makan. Politikus tu simply cakap. Tikus tu lari sana dan sembunyi. Politikus pula lepas cakap, blame orang lain, lepas buang batu disorok tanggannya. Tikus dan politikus share the same characteristic: licik and irresponsible.

Kalaulah suatu hari nanti, untuk sehari kita jangan berkata-kata dalam bahasa politik. How nice if everything is not being politicized and relate to religions or ethnicities. I wish one day we talk in one common language, be as one race, Malaysian. Afterall we breath the same air, our blood are red.

Cuba fikir apa akan jadi kalaulah kesemua bukan Melayu pupus di bumi Malaysia.

For your information, I am a Chinese Malaysian. I born here. I grown up here. I've been here all this while for 22 years. I'm not an immigrant. I'm not from China. I'll end my life here, Malaysia. This is my home..

Anyway congrats Danial, ur hardwork paid off. =p

Kejutan Ibrahim Ali??

saya terbaca artikel ini semasa saya boring membaca buku.

http://mstar.com.my/berita/cerita.asp?file=/2010/9/12/mstar_berita/20100912185318&sec=mstar_berita

i berani cakap, kalau Datuk ni cintakan Malaysia, fight for all! nescaya org Cina India dan lain-lain pun support u! i pun akan support u!

saya ingat lagi Datuk pernah cakap 'I love you all'. Datuk ingat tak?? kalau Datuk ingat, walk the talk. Datuk bukannya orang yang tak pandai atau orang jahat. Datuk berjasa kepada kawasan Parlimen datuk. Tapi cara Datuk tu tak berapa disenangi orang masyarakat. Sekarang ni, UMNO pun kata tak sokong you.

Siapa yang tak nak jadi popular? Siapa yang tak nak fight for its own people?

Kalau sue i, i takde duit..

Selamat Hari Raya. Maaf zahir dan batin.

1Malaysia ah??

We are Malaysian: An Indian barber is giving a new Raya hair cut to a Malay customer in his old shop at the slow and old town of Temoh, Perak. When many of the youngster don't even know or don't even care about the country and the meaning of independence, we can see this Malaysian Indian flying up Malaysia flag in his shop.

Those who ask what else the Chinese want or those who call the Indians and Chinese are immigrants or outsiders, they should really think twice. Treat others as you would like to be treated. We are all Malaysians. All of us carrying Malaysian IC and registered with the National Registration Department are Malaysians. We and our fathers, our forefathers have been and will still contribute to the development of this country because this is Malaysian, a land for us, the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Sikh, Dayak, Kadazan, Dusun, Eurasian, mixed parentage and many more ethnics on this land.

So can this photo be 1Malaysia? This is 1Malaysia for me. It's fine if there's no such thing as 1Malaysia because we have already been doing this for the past half a century. More racial tensions after the concept was introduced. Then are we still 1Malaysia??

We are Malaysians in a country called Malaysia with or without 1Malaysia. Those talking about 1Malaysia are the one who are not practicing it because they just have to convince people to accept them for their own political interest. The normal rakyat are not doing the talking but they are doing the action. The grassroat rakyat are united. Only those with power, those who wish to be popular, those who can control the media and those who wish to be jatuh kampung, try to separate the rakyat and then they talk about 1Malaysia. Why?? To show that they care but they are the one who dividing us.

Racism comes when we feel we are superior than the rest. Don't forget that we are all the same.

If you love the nation, show your love. Don't talk only no action.

I am the owner of this country too..

MACC "commits suicide"

By Martin Jalleh
18 Aug. 2010 – The Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), very tragically, “committed suicide” today. It killed the very little that was left of its own integrity and credibility.
Its public image plunged to the very depths with the help of its advocate Abdul Razak Musa. He had at first advocated self-strangulation. He even demonstrated how it could be done.
When that failed, the very experienced lawyer of 24 years assisted the Commission to take a wild leap out of the window of logic, common sense and civility.
Depressed
Many have observed that the MACC has been very depressed of late. It has gone through bouts of disappointment, doubts, dejection and denial, all contributing to its sudden self-destruction.
The last (first) MACC chief even jumped ship a few months before his due retirement date. It seems he could no longer handle the daunting (more appropriately read as “haunting”) task.
It appears that the MACC has left behind a suicide note which was supposedly written by its eight-month old new chief Abu Kassim Mohammed. The contents need to be verified of course. It reads:
“Things have been bad for us – bad public perception, bad press, bad publicity, and as though these were not bad enough, we have done badly in the courts with most of the big fish being acquitted!
“I have asked for a year to convince the rakyat of our commitment to combat and curb corruption but the public is still so very critical, cynical and condemning of the MACC.
“The public misunderstands us, press mistreats us, alternative media highlights only our mistakes, Opposition mocks us and Government makes use of us but we are very independent.
“I even told the Cabinet that its members should declare their assets publicly. But they asked me to take my proposal and shelve and shove it…in one of my many cabinets.
“On Teoh Beng Hock’s death anniversary I said we will act without fear, favour and farce. But it has been a flop and many flip-flops. We have lost face even after launching our Facebook page. It is very frustrating!
“It has been a long, lonely and losing battle. And now our learned legal department head has determinedly driven the last nail into our coffin and we have very dutifully dug our own grave!”
It seems that the MACC, due to its synergy with Umno, sent a “Solidarity in Suicide” invitation to the party. They declined, for they have received a similar earlier invitation from Perkasa.
Discredit
The events that led to MACC’s “suicide” began during the cross-examination of the world-renowed Thai forensic pathologist Dr Pornthip Rojanasunand by Abdul Razak in the Teoh Beng Hock’s Inquest.
He first attacked Pornthip on her qualifications and claimed that the MACC’s expert witness, Peter Vanezis, was “far more qualified” than her…as he had “graduated from Bristol University”.
He added that Mahidol University, where she had graduated from, was not recognised in Malaysia. Understandably, he was rather silent on where he graduated from, its ranking and whether it was recognised anywhere on the face of the earth.
Pornthip advised the antagonistic lawyer not to look down on Asians and retorted that Mahidol is ranked the 220th best university in the world and is Thailand’s top-ranked university.
Abdul Razak also accused her of being biased, and as an expert witness engaged by the Selangor State Government, she had come to Bolehland “to attack the MACC”.
She stopped him dead in his tracks: “You have to understand. I work for the rights of the dead, not the Selangor government. My objective is to help the dead!”
It is hoped that the “dead clients” of Pornthip (who has offered her services on a pro bono basis in Teoh’s case) will not take offence and haunt the MACC lawyer who after all appears brain-dead!
It was perhaps the first time in her 25 years as a pathologist that Pornthip was meeting such a pathetic lawyer. She therefore could not resist asking Abdul Razak: “Are you really a lawyer?”
Abdul Razak charged that Pornthip kept changing her position and “the goalpost”. He forgot or got pretty mixed up that such a privileged role and position belonged solely to the Attorney-General with the ball always in his court(s).
He absurdly insisted that her expert opinion was based on her imagination. He would later prove that he was even much more imaginative than her by demonstrating the art of self-strangulation.
Demonstration
When Pornthip maintained that Teoh did not commit suicide – a view which would definitely not sit well with the MACC, Abdul Razak became a spontaneous stand-up comedian!
He suggested that Teoh ‘strangled himself’ and was ‘depressive’. It was a line which he desperately copied from Dr M who had said that Anwar gave himself a black eye when in prison!
The MACC lawyer decided to give a practical demonstration on himself, after being challenged by Gobind Singh Deo, the lawyer for Teoh’s family, to show how one can strangle himself.
Everyone in court was highly entertained, though some may have wished Abdul Razak had succeeded in his demonstration! Pornthip’s “clients” must have surely laughed out loud in their graves!
But the MACC’s prosecutor’s court antics were not over yet. He would provide more ammunition to the MACC to shoot itself. He asked Pornthip if she has any experience jumping off a building!
The cool, calm and composed counsel for the Selangor Government, Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, countered with classic sarcasm: “With questions like these, we would all want to jump off a building!”
Pornthip sensed she had so far seen only the tip of the lawyer’s incompetence. He eventually became so confused that even the Bar Council representatives and coroner had to help clarify and correct him.
Despair
Abdul Razak was in court not to help the coroner determine the real cause of Teoh’s death but to denigrate Pornthip and to distract and divert everyone from the truth. He ended up destroying his own client’s integrity and credibility!
In trying to discredit “the most trusted individual in all of Thailand” (according to a Readers’ Digest Trust survey last year) he has driven the MACC into utter despair in its desperate attempts to restore public confidence!
The law, we are often told. is an ass. But it would be more accurate to say in this context that the lawyer (for the MACC) is an ass and being holed up in the commission, he has turned asinine, arrogant, absurd and abusive.
But why should we be surprised. He is after all the very same lawyer who told wheechair-bound Karpal Singh, the lead lawyer for the Teoh family in the Inquest: “I can sit but you cannot stand”!
But Abdul Razak has the making of a judge in the appellate courts, where, in the words of the very respected retired judge N H Chan, sit a bunch of “ignorant”, “inane”, “incompetent” and “idiotic” judges.
As the hearing ended, Gobind Singh Deo was overheard whispering to himself: “Deo Gratias!” (“Thanks be to God!”). He was indeed grateful to God for Abdul Razak Musa and his sterling role in assisting the MACC “commit suicide”!

Mahasiswa and Politics, Yes and No?

“Students Power!”

That’s what keeping the students or ‘mahasiswa’ of higher learning institutions to be more vocal and actively involved in activism.

Dialogues sessions, debates and news regarding mahasiswa engaging in politics are widely spread in the dailies.

The question here is why yes and why no for the mahasiswa to join political parties?

First of all, to clear all the doubts and misconceptions, the supporters and the opposition of the idea should come up with a good explanation on what is the meaning of ‘berpolitik’ or engaging in politics. The term ‘berpolitik’ is ambiguous.

Now, the Cabinet on the Wednesday meeting has decided that mahasiswa will not be allowed to get involved in political parties. This decision will somehow close all the discussions on this topic for once and for all.

The announcement was made by the Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin.

"Section 15 of the Universities and University Colleges Act (AUKU) 1971 is already adequate as students are allowed to be involved in political parties if they obtain permission from their vice-chancellors," he said in a statement.

Ironically the news only appeared in The Star’s online version but not in their printed version in Thursday 12 August 2010.

Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is also the Education Minister, had reminded students at matriculation colleges and higher education institutions that they were still bound by provisions under UUCA although it provides them with more freedom of speech.

UUCA is only applicable for IPTA students while students in IPTS are obliged to Article 555.

Government feels that students will be distracted with politics and will lose focus in their studies if they join political parties.

But for those who support that students should be allowed to join political parties, they feel otherwise. Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah (photo) said on Tuesday there should be more open discussions on the issue of allowing university students to take an active part in politics.

In the National Student Leaders Council Meeting last week in Bangi which attended by 20 IPTAs and 13 IPTSs student leaders, Saifuddin also openly support mahasiswa to join political parties. He feels that mahasiswa are matured enough to think for themselves. He is one of the very few in the government that support the call by the mahasiswa.

“The rights of the active few cannot be suppress by the majority,” he said in support for the students who want to join political parties.

Besides that he also questioned the need to register just to vote, it’s so tedious. He said that it’s fine if every citizen be made a registered voter automatically by the age of 21. This does not mean that they are compulsory to vote. It’s up to the people to vote or not to vote. At least there will be less procedures just to be in the voting list.

Meanwhile, Barisan Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin (photo) on Aug 2 said the wing unanimously urging the Government to allow undergraduates to join political parties.

In his recent Tweet on Wednesday, he posted “Cabinet decision not allowing university students to be involved in political parties is gutless & indicates outdated thinking. There.”

Some of the student leaders in the meeting feel that mahasiswa already in politics by joining the students’ body. They had the election campaign in their campus and they are voted to be the student leaders. Students are already indirectly involved in politics and some of them already helping out political parties off campus although they are not officially given the approval to do so.

Some may feel the decision by the government is contradicting. This is because Malaysian students studying abroad could become members of Umno, MCA or PAS clubs by why not them studying locally. They also questioned why they the so-called smarter ones are deprived of the rights compared to their friends who are unable to enter higher learning institutions but can join political parties.

A Political Science’s lecturer from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Perak Campus, Miss Por Heong Heong also against the decision by the Cabinet. She said students should be given the rights to join political parties.

“Students can freely join political parties as long as they don’t set up official branch in the university,” she said.

Her rationale is students should be allowed to debate on political and national issues. She feels that the move by some politicians who agreed that students to be allowed to join political parties might be just an experiment to test their sentiment.

Mahasiswa want their voice to be heard. The government should no longer underestimate the power of mahasiswa. A big lesson should be learned from the last General Election in 2008. The mahasiswa have arise, awaken and they are now more aware and articulate in the shaping of the nation. They hold the one of the biggest voting power in the election. If the government still in the state of denial in recognising the maturity, concern and voice from the mahasiswa, it will be a tough job for the government to have full majority in Parliament and State Assembly.

Mahasiswa are now more highly socially conscious with their nation’s development. To let mahasiswa to engage or join political parties is up to the hand of the Prime Minister. Maybe government should listen more to mahasisawa now by consulting them and the experts before making any hasty decision. But one thing for sure, the issue wont ends here. Mahasiswa know the best for themselves and they will not stop fighting for what they believe in.

Let’s think about this quote from the movie V for Vendetta. It says, “the people should not be afraid of the government. The government should be afraid of the people.”

Editing in Photography

I wonder why some people love to edit their pictures. Why? I don’t know why. I myself don’t like to edit photos. I feel a photo should stay the way it is. Only original photo can portray the true message. A photo should and must always captured from the heart through observative eyes. What's the point of a photo if it’s not original?

I love originality and authenticity. Only through an original unedited photo, audience can feel the heart of the photographer.

This is one of the many reasons why i never like to take model shots. My works always focus on candid shots which contain more natural and honest emotions. Emotions should be expressed freely and without being planned.

A photo is like a life. If a photo is edited, it is a fake photo. A fake photo is like a clon human. A clon human is never as real as a real human. It is a human without soul.

All this while since I got serious into photography back in 2003, I always stand firm on my principle not to edit pictures. I never like to edit pictures. But then in a commercial photography, photographers edit their photos to give different moods and to make the pictures look better. I only touch up pictures that were taken in a bad weather or when it’s for a customer. Example: wedding and event photos.

Edit and touch up are two different things. Touch up is slightly less changes in editing. There are very minor changes only in touching up of photos compared to editing.
I always believe that a good photo always come from a good photographer, not a good gadget.

Don’t get offended. Im not critisizing anyone. Im just expressing my view. This post is not to condemn anyone who edit their photos. If you feel comfortable in editing photos, go ahead. Photography itself is a very subjective field to be explained and interpreted.
